The main difference between a bullwhip and a stock whip is that a stock whip has a longer handle and a removable thong while a bullwhips handle and thong are all one piece. The part that holds the thong of the whip on the handle of a stock whip is called the "keeper". It allows the the thong to be laced through it in a figure eight like knot that holds it secure. In this way one can have fancy, or not, handles that do not need to be re braided every time the thong wears out. Also there is no issue with the stress point wearing out where the thong meets the handle like there is on a bullwhip. If the keeper wears out it can also be easily replaced.
